Appartiene al genere dei combattimenti ed è stato rilasciato per Xbox 360 e PS 3 nell'aprile 2011. Nel maggio 2012 è stato rilasciato per PS Vita. Nel febbraio 2012 è stata rilasciata una versione ampliata denominata Mortal Kombat - Komplete Edition per PS 3 e Xbox 360 e nel luglio 2013 per MS Windows. L'editore del gioco è Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment e lo sviluppatore è NetherRealm Studios.
La trama del gioco è incentrata su Raiden, il divino protettore della Terra, che cerca di cambiare gli eventi lasciati da Armageddon e deve sconfiggere Shao Jahn, il malvagio imperatore dell'Outworld. Il gameplay è più simile al 2D, anche se i livelli e i personaggi sono creati in 3D. Questo gioco ha ricevuto recensioni positive dalla critica ed è noto per aver vinto numerosi premi come miglior gioco di combattimento dell'anno. Gli sviluppatori del gioco lo hanno definito un grande successo commerciale, avendo venduto oltre 2 milioni di copie nel primo mese di uscita. Tuttavia, in Australia questo gioco è stato vietato dalle autorità locali a causa dei suoi contenuti estremamente violenti e non ritenuti adatti ai bambini.

Cracked it a while back, it was a pain in the ass to crack but I had done it, I finally had cracked MKK, and was ready to play it. I opened the game as an administrator, and was astonished at the neat graphics and 60 fps of the menu screen, little did I know, it was one of THOSE games, where you need a PC the size of a baby horse to run this game at 60 fps. Nevertheless I thought, maybe i could lower the resolution, keep the high quality and play in windowed mode, since I don't mind it. I realized windowed mode was impossible, and that it was even an issue on the original steam game. Other than that, the game felt great, looked like a dog turd on my screen, but still somehow felt good. The fatalities are awesome, and i even managed to play local two player matches. Well done Warner Bros.

When I tried to kick shao khan's ass with cyrax he couldn't reach him even if he was right in front of him and Shao Khan was able to do all of his combos faster than usual. This is a cheating game. And it doesn't function properly!
