The most fitting word to describe this game would be "brilliant". Everything that it contains is new in some sort of way. The graphical style is so pleasing, and the way it can express tone is second to none. The gameplay is innovative in the best way possible, leading to many very interesting set-ups, and it never gets old. The boss fights especially are a highlight. The best part of the game for me personally, however, was the story, which was equal parts heartfelt, hilarious, and beautiful. If I have any gripes that keep it from being a 10/10 for me, it's that it doesn't really pick up until Act 4, but after that, it is an experience that I will not soon forget.

You play as a Bard, setting out on an adventure with Music as your weapon! The story starts in the Bards dream where he receives a message from the Goddess Aia and learns he isn't any good with a sword. The message is that the world is in danger, and the only way to save it is to sing the Earthsong to the Goddess. You have to adventure around the world to learn the whole song. Upon waking up, the Bard finds his town now haunted by Ghosts, which you defeat with song. Everything you do is controlled by Singing, from conversations to solving puzzles. Mach the tones, and sing your way to victory. Gameplay is mostly straight forward, allowing things to be pretty simple. Though most concepts aren't used more than once, keeping the singing mechanic fairly fresh throughout the game. The amount of Characters, each with their own personality, is staggering. There are so many people to interact with in this world! The game also does an incredible job of conveying the Bard's mood, from the colors of the environments to the Bard's expressions. There is a lot to explore, and the many ways you get to use your singing to advance is amazing! This is a spectacular adventure that breaks the standard conventions of an adventure game, and will make for a great addition to most game collections!

Ultimately, Wandersong on Xbox One is worth trying at least. The way it constantly switches up its gameplay and tone can be exciting and refreshing, and I wholly appreciate that Wandersong isn't trying to replicate the ideas or style of any other game.

The art style and music are really great. I absolutely adore its use of colours. However, the controls need tweaking. Although the game is best played with a controller, it is very easy to hit the wrong song notes with the analog stick. The puzzles are a bit repetitive at times, but it's not a big problem.The story is good, but a bit too short in my opinion, and I didn't like the ending as it was too abrupt. And the one thing that really bugged me was the treatment of Audrey. I think she is a very great complex character and I kind of agreed with her views too - if Eya asked her to kill all the Overseers and end the world and she followed Eya's words then why is she the "wrong" one and not Eya? Audrey is not worthy to be the "hero" but her viewpoints should be acknowledged and she did not deserve to be forgotten in the ending.And a rant about Eya. I can't stand her... She manipulated both the Bard and Audrey and didn't care about the Bard's feeling at all. When she was found to be working with Audrey she stopped to appear before the bard for a long time.. And when Audrey ditched her, she came to the Bard and said "I'm on your team now" I was like wow, how about no?

It has heart and soul, telling an emotional tale that’s full of wonder. Wandersong isn’t perfect, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Wandersong is a charming, heart-filled musical-adventure. For fans of the puzzle-adventure genre, there is a lot to be had here but where Wandersong really shines, lies in its spirited, charismatic characters and unique story line. Wandersong isn't afraid to make fun of the usual heroic tropes found in many games on the market, but still finds a way to make the player stay connected to what is going on. Come for the adventure, but stay for a song.

Wandersong proves there are still many things no one has done in a video game before. Gameplay and story-wise is great, and even though the controls still need some tweaking, it’s a game you should try if you’re looking for something original.

I have absolutely no complaints about the story: I only wish the gameplay always kept up with it. Frustrating moments often surfaced at bad times due to poor controls which made actually playing the game less of a fun experience, and I’d love to give this game a go on the Switch, where the singing goes smoother. Wandersong also feels a little long, not because the story gets boring, but because the puzzles can get a bit repetitive. However, the strength of Wandersong is such that these complaints feel pale in the face of the kind of relentless optimism that the bard has in spades.

From its grin-inducing highs to its tear-jerking lows, Wandersong is a magical and captivating game. It’s undoubtedly one of the best indie games out in 2018.
