The Sinking City Xbox Series X|S is an improved version of the game that arrived on Xbox One, with a solid technical finish, but little polish, leaving us with a bittersweet feeling. Speaking of the gameplay part, investigation phases stand out, because they are very well crafted and the feeling of being investigating is well made.

It is always strange to replay a game, especially one like The Sinking City; a game that is quite hefty in terms of the hours required. But with this next-gen edition, this is never an issue and it’s been a delight to head back in to the world it delivers - mostly thanks to the new tweaks making it feel like you are playing a new game at times. From the fast loading times to the texture of rain on a coat, The Sinking City now feels wonderful.

Well what happens when KKK are the only ones whos actively fighting a worshipers of the cult to EDRICH HORROR? No matter how you try to humanize the FISH people, the KKK look like the good guys, you absolute pillocks. Developers wanted to be so woke and give Lovecraft's racism a middle finger so badly, they did a full circle and made the KKK look rational. Incredible, just amazing.The gameplay is poorly made and boring.

Il existe théoriquement des points de « voyage rapide » mais impossible de comprendre commen ça marche… ce qui amène aux soucis d’interface, nombreux, car ici tout a été pensé pour être strictement contraire à l’intuition plus ou moins intuitive… aussi ne faut-il pas s’étonner de se retrouver bloqué dans la progression de l’enquête, soit en raison d’un bug, soit parce qu’on a loupé un indice capital.Le système d’enquête lui-même est tout foireux, le jeu piquant et repiquant des mécaniques d’autres jeux mais réassemblées ici par ses soins en un merdier particulièrement foutraque. Les combats sont assez problématiques, autant par la maniabilité risible que par l’imprécision générale ainsi que l’animation d’un autre âge du personnage : il s’agit clairement d’un TPS totalement raté à ces égards.En outre, les monstres sont étonnamment costauds alors que les munitions restent incroyablement rares ! Néanmoins, le jeu n’est pas trop vilain malgré des textures pauvres et un manque de détails flagrant alors qu’à l’insu de son plein gré, il tourne à 60 im/s sur console ! en fait, il fait partie de ces jeux non bloqués à 30 im/s comme ils devraient l’être ; il tourne donc comme une patate sauf lorsque la console est assez puissante pour assurer le framerate maximal, ce qui est le cas sur la Series X !A noter une VF intégrale pas mal faite également… mais malheureusement, ça sent le jeu non maîtrisé et bordélique qui s’est éparpillé en cours de développement ; ce monde ouvert trop grand est une erreur et d’un autre côté les mécaniques sclérosées du jeu sont désespérément bâclées, ce qui donne finalement un jeu merdique, ennuyeux et lourdingue.

There are so many problems with this game on a technical level from NPC popping in at random to falling through world objects and the player getting stuck in boats. The main character has a dead eye look to him that makes him feel lifeless. The modeling done in the game makes no sense with the size of some of the doors in comparison to the character. Over all it feels odd and doesn't draw the user into the game at all from my perspective. There are some redeeming factors mainly being that the lore is based and inspired by Lovecraft. Even with that it isn't enough to save this game from the boring characters. If this developer decides to expand on the franchise I hope they focus more on things making sense with height ratios. As well, if they are able to make a more compelling story along with characters that are more full of life.

For the entire game you’ll have the feeling that something significant is going to happen soon – but it won’t. Story never takes a sharp turn, every interesting character is introduced in the first third of the game and there are no meaningful rewards to find in Oakmont openworld.

I wouldn’t describe The Sinking City as a bad game, by any means. Much like its Sherlockian predecessors it’s very much for a niche audience, but if you’re part of that niche — and I think I am — it’ll be a fun way to pass 15-20 hours.

Bethesda.Seriously, I can't stress how good this game is if you're willing to look passed its flaws. The horror elements are genuinely spooky, the combat can be really intense, and I loved, loved, loved the idea of this sort of "paranormal investigator" the game makes you feel like you are. There really isn't another game like this and it's a shame so many people are sweeping it under the rug.It's far from perfect, but damn if I didn't have more fun than I've had playing most games this year. I enjoyed it about as much as I did The Witcher 3.My only real complaint is some of the side quests are dull as heck, but you can skip those. There's two worth doing and you'll know which ones those are. The rest are just fetch quests.

The Sinking City is a fun game, but to really enjoy it there is a lot you'll have to put up with. Maybe that will be solved in the future, but at the moment the only thing that really saves this game is the amazing influence of Lovecraft.

The negatives are the combat is clunky, it definitely feels like a map simulator at times (you will spend an inordinate amount of time using the map to hunt down street names for objectives), the skill system is uninspired, sometimes they overuse notes/memo's to relay the horror that is going on in the game when a bit more seeing it actually happen even outside a cut scene would have been far more impactful, and the endings seemed a bit short and anti-climactic.Now the positives...The world itself was to me quite immersive. As each case unfolds you are allowed to make choices on who you side with, what you do, and there is impact to these choices as far as the individual cases and even a few main story points as you go. I was also impressed at the moral ambiguity of some of the choices. If your RP'ing it, they generally give you enough clues to find and determine what would be the most "moral" choice is, but at times its up to your own determination of if the ends justified the means. While many will complain the population outside of the main characters are lifeless, I beg to differ. While non-interactable there was a lot of attention to detail and making the city feel immersive. If you pay attention as your running around you will see people fighting their own battles over food, haggling, begging, etc, but better yet as things in the game unfold you start to see changes. After a mission involving poisoning of food given to the people for example, for the duration of the game after I noticed people being sick on the street as I passed. The districts of the city as they were also seemed distinct and well done with minimal rehash of the buildings/interior maps (even then the interior details were rearranged often).Overall, I enjoyed this jaunt into Lovecraftian lore. If your into also, you likely would enjoy the game as well.

The Sinking City is a near-miss, and a unique foray into surivival horror. It doesn’t coddle you, and it certainly doesn’t do any hand-holding, which makes it a unique detective outing let down in its execution by a number of tiny flaws. A sequel that focuses on making cases less humdrum, and cuts back on the combat, could be a hell of an offering for devout fans of the detective genre. The game isn’t bad, but it’s hard to care about what you’re doing when many cases in The Sinking City are so banal.

While it lacks a bit of polish, The Sinking City is an otherwise weird and mind-bending journey, bundled with all the ingredients for a great experience.

Besides even the witcher 3 combat is more clunky.Even when dying, the auto save system got your back and you do not lose much progress.3 save slots are available for manual saving.I will definitely play through this game again. Where 2018’s Call of Cthulhu tries to carve out a small space to tell its own stand-alone story that tucked itself into the already existing cosmic lore, The Sinking City feels like it’s picking up eight movies into a Lovecraft cinematic Cthu-niverse, delivering a concentrated dose of its distinctive flavor. The first five minutes introduce the protagonist, Charles Reed, to Mister Robert Throgmorton, an important character who appears to be half-ape, half-human. That’s a deep-cut reference to Lovecraft’s short story, "Facts Concerning the Late Arthur Jermyn and His Family." This is quickly followed up by a run-in with the Innsmouthers, who are basically fish people from another novella. It pulls from so many of Lovecraft’s plots, quotes, and themes that it reverently captures the intrigue and interest from these pulpy stories while combining them in a new way. It inspires political and criminal intrigue amidst its true-to-genre story.

It’s great to finally have a game that seems to put you right in the middle of one of H. P. Lovecraft’s worlds… that sense of strangeness that lies over everything like a fog that draws you in and embraces you in the oddness of it all is quite compelling. Best played at night with the lights off to truly become immersed in the world of The Sinking City.

Those invested in the Cthulhu mythos might be interested in the tale found in The Sinking City, but most others should wait until the game is patched.

This game takes chances, and it definitely takes some getting used to, but I am so glad to see a game that doesn’t just copy Far Cry or The Last of Us.

The Sinking City is a certifiable mess to play. The impressively omnipresent screen tearing took forever to get used to, loading times seemed to drag on longer and longer the further I got into the game, and the framerate could be best described as sluggish at worst and choppy at best.

Even with its (few) flaws, The Sinking City manages to shine right where other games of the same genre have failed to impress. It doesn’t abuse jumpscare and useless boss fights, but instead Frogwares focused on a well thought out and engaging investigative system and on pleasant action parts, which naturally lead the player to discover the monstrosities of the abyss and to bitterly repent of their own curiosity.

The Sinking City has an incredible atmosphere that really grips the darkest parts of your mind. Oakmont feels hostile, unwelcoming and full of secrets, but the game makes it clear that it might cost more than just your life to find out what they are. While it stumbles with its characters and combat, The Sinking City is a great first step into the supernatural detective game.

It's hard to resent a game as unapologetically dweeby as The Sinking City. It's an old-fashioned, bookish mystery rooted in the mythology and mysteries of a pulpy, cult-favorite mid-century American novelist--an effort not without charm, to be sure. But no matter how fond your affection for H.P. Lovecraft and the idea of a wide-eyed, slow-burn literary adventure, the poor design, cliched writing, and lumbering pace make this far more tedious than delightful, let alone unsettling or terrifying.

The Sinking City is paradoxically teeming with life and things to do while atmospherically making you feel alone and unsafe. The revamped investigation systems rely on your own powers of deduction and the combat is both tense and nerve-wracking. Save for the graphical issues, The Sinking City is heart-pounding, unrelenting, and addictive. Its powers of immersion and fear are not to be overlooked, and fans of eldritch horror, Cthulhu, and things that go bump in the night will definitely be satisfied playing in the dark.
