The story itself is an amazing idea and if gameplay and graphics were better it'd be easily one of my favorite games.

Finally a really good and interesting game that i got to play.The story and the characters are just amazing i loved the moral of the storyFinally a really good and interesting game that i got to play.The story and the characters are just amazing i loved the moral of the story that they gave and everything about the good guys and the bad guys i loved.They aren't really bad guys or good guys they are just people with their own problems that they need to overcome.I loved the idea of me being able to see both side's of the coin playing as one of the enemies that we were fighting like some sort of spy that was freaking awesome.The music was pretty good and the gameplay at the start was pretty amazing.The only part of the game i didnt like was the endless maze like corridors and the repetitive gameplay that was the same the entire time .It was so exhausting fighting the same type of enemies on long ass maze like corridors all the time.But the the great story and characters with their own problems overcame that small hurdle and made this game a truly amazing and unforgettable experience that i wish i could forget and play again.

For the adults that played Persona 1/2 (dual) you'll enjoy this title however I recommend you play this on the ps4 or pc as the switch version suffers in the framerate department.

A JRPG that will appeal to fans of the genre with its interesting setting and unique combat system, but it's ultimately marred by tedious battles and dull dialogue.

If you would call this a poor man's Persona, you would not be far from the truth. But is there really no beauty in poverty? Yeah, this game made us think about stuff way too much, but that does not mean it is not a great and fun title. It lacks a bit of polish but still offers plenty of reasons for you to grab a Switch and delve into its world of lies, mystery and moral dilemmas. Oh and some catchy j-pop too!

While it is the strongest version of The Caligula Effect, it is hard to recommend Overdose to anyone but the most hardcore of fans given its flaws.

The Caligula Effect Overdose could have been so much more, I would never say no to more games bringing unique ideas to the Persona formula, but this game doesn’t deliver on that and is instead filled with repetitive and undeveloped systems. It can entertain and be fun, but I feel that The Caligula Effect Overdose truly is a game for the serious hardcore fans of the genre that like the idea of a less developed Persona title.

Some minor technical issues and not the most high budget production, being a vita port.

Even with an engaging combat system to some fun side characters, just doesn’t have enough to carry all the dullness it brings with it in its story and environments.

The new additions to the story and combat are welcome and they definitely make the experience better than the original Vita release. This is better than playing it on the PS Vita for sure but you’d rather just get this on PS4 or PC if you’re really interested in Caligula.

After 8 hours of play I felt physically ill just playing and while notcing how the texture looked the spread out jngs. And The Difficulty curve (on Normal) goes from too easy to the game almost preventing you to attack enemys due to some **** accurcy percentage and no the percentage does not change based on how close you are to the enemy but random. Lesson here folks just play Persona 5 because at least that game wont want to make you hang your self.

As an homage to the Persona series, The Caligula Effect: Overdose tries to utilize the same mechanics and mannerisms that made the Persona games unique, yet fails to improve over its past shadow. While it does improve many aspects, including a fantastic battle system, it still struggles to improve its storytelling and interaction mechanisms, which ultimately fail to engage players to the dark secrets of the human soul. Not a bad effort, but definitely with room to improve.

The story and characters seem interesting and I like the combat but what makes it falter are the WIRE chat interactions don't feel like natural conversations I would have with anyone (including my real friends).The game locks away things called "trauma" quests behind certain students and to get to those students I have to try and get to know OVER 500 OTHER STUDENTS! Seriously?! I don't know if this game was trying to REALLY overshadow Persona 5 but more does not mean better NIS. P5 only gives me 16 people I need to socialize with, you add another 500 students (that all look exactly alike) on top of that and a part of me just hopes these aren't necessary to complete the game, plus I don't even feel these students are worth talking to since I just hold the L1 button to end the conversations faster. I don't know if this game is greatly improved compared to the vita version but I have feeling it isn't.Save your $50 and just watch the anime "Caligula". It will take less time (less than 5 hours) to watch and it is even free to watch on certain sites.

The combat system here is easy to pick up on, the leveling system is streamlined, and the item menu navigation is easy to understand. Add to that the intriguing story, the amazing music, and the outstanding voice acting and you got yourself a solid JRPG. Fans and newcomers alike should really consider adding this to their collection.

The Caligula Effect: Overdose is still definitely a flawed, frustrating work. Its shortcomings are many, and might still be too intractable for some, but the refinements and additions have,for me at least, papered over the cracks just enough to make it worth putting up with.

Even without prior knowledge of the Persona series, it’s hard to walk away from this game without criticizing the quality. A boring story, uninteresting characters, and a soundtrack that begs you to play with the sound turned off are just a sample of the myriad reasons to avoid The Caligula Effect. For a select niche, the incredibly fun combat system may be worth overlooking all of the faults, if at least for a few hours. While I had a terrific time beating my opponents into dust, everything else is just too egregious to recommend to anyone.

An unapologetically smart and thoughtful game, one that's happy to be philosophical, and one that's willing to make you work to truly dig into what makes it so wonderful. It's like a work of literature in that way, as opposed to a page-turning novel, and it commands (and deserves) respect for that.

Japanese video games are often equal to anime and manga, it doesn’t matter in what format you’re enjoying the stories. The Caligula Effect: Overdose, too, makes you forget you’re playing a game but rather, experiencing a piece of Japanese popular culture.

The Caligula Effect Overdose is a good example of what a « plus » version should be. More characters, more storylines, more side quests, it totally justifies the "Overdose" suffix in its name.
