Operencia: the Stolen Sun is an excellent RPG with a lot of great qualities. It looks good, the classic turn-based combat is well done, and the world itself feels expansive. Players can expect between 20-30 hours of adventure as well, so it’s a fairly lengthy game. For RPG lovers who haven’t checked out Operencia, it’s absolutely recommendable. For a VR-only release, it’s less of a sure bet. Avoid the Oculus Store version and go for either the Steam or PlayStation versions since those let you play the game however you like.

Operencia: The Stolen Sun is the best example of a grid-based dungeon crawler on the Switch right now. Despite some fiddly controls on this port, the solid combat, exploration, puzzling, and strong writing make it a hefty recommendation for genre fans.

Overall Operencia: The Stolen Sun is a good introduction if you’ve never played a dungeon crawler type RPG before. It has a few rough edges and a tutorial that had me wishing it was over sooner. But this is balanced by some really great world lore, tons of great voice acting and great level design.

During the latter half of the game you wouldn’t me amiss spamming your way through most battles whilst playing closer attention to the story, dialogue, and engaging world. In the end, the approachable combat gives the fantasy dungeon-crawling of Operencia a wider appeal than say a new Wizardry might. Fans of party-based RPGs in the vein of Baldur’s Gate or Dragon Age will find a lot to love here too, thanks to the combination of great writing and wonderful presentation. And hey, any fantasy world that features a relic called the magical Amulet of Zotmund is one worth visiting.

Well, we all know the answer to that question, don’t we? In Operencia, you take off on a journey of exploration, adventure, and heroic deeds—not to mention monsters and mayhem. If you enjoy turn based RPGs, this one is worth checking out.

You'd think that I'd love Operencia but I found it squarely "good but not great".The combat has a lot of promise as a modern turn-based system but it just seems so unevenly implemented. Encounters are mostly too easy but a few are too hard, in a way that just feels like poor design. You get so many attack options but none of them ever feel particularly exciting.The story is okay at best, and the characters are very generic quip-artists, admittedly I generally don't like this style of "let's speak entirely in half-baked sarcastic quips as we supposedly try to save the world from very serious and imminent doom" that modern RPGs often use, but this is a particularly uninspired implementation of it.I'd overlook all of this if I could just get immersed in exploring cool dungeons but most of these levels aren't even dungeons, they're set on the surface. That's a fun trick to break up the monotony of dungeons, but when I play a dungeon crawler I primarily want to, you know, crawl dungeons. Not plod through 3-4 aboveground levels to finally get some proper dungeon action.The puzzles too fall into that "too easy or too hard" description, sometimes they just seemed poorly designed. The graphics and sound are good, and I don't regret buying this game... but it just didn't do it for me like the old games it reminded me of.

If you're looking for a meaty old-school dungeon-crawling adventure with a ton of secrets and treasures to find as you make your way across its world, this one comes as a nice surprise and is highly recommended.

Operencia: The Stolen Sun oozes charm, with the perfect balance of combat, exploration, puzzles, and funny bantering characters. This game is a complete winner, and any fan of dungeon crawlers shouldn’t hesitate to pick it up.

Operencia: The Stolen Sun is an extremely solid dungeon-crawler. Each labyrinth runs the gamut of ferocious monsters and confounding puzzles that fans of the genre crave. Fights tend to be repetitious and suffer from rough pacing, but the battle system is clearly thought-out and enjoyable to master. The array of options, from party-building to difficulty customization, allows for someone to carve out their own identity. It's also nice that the cast is quirky and endearing. Even the avatar will commentate on the situation, rather than stew in silence like so many other blank slates. This makes for an adventure that's amusing in every respect.

Operencia: The Stolen Sun took me by surprise and I’m going to have to start thinking of Zen Studios as more than just a great Pinball developer. It packs a decent story, memorable characters, robust combat strategy and challenge, a huge world and plenty of playtime. Currently in Xbox Game Pass, you’re able to try it out right now if you’re a subscriber, but even if not, I wouldn’t feel any guilt recommending Operencia even at its full $38.99 CAD price tag if any of the above sounded appealing to you. While it won’t be for everyone and has its quirks, it’s a specific game meant for old school dungeon dwelling fans like myself that miss the genre.

They accomplished just what they set out to do a modernized experience of this type of game. Good combat mechanics and plenty of character customization. Your characters have interactions and backgorund stories which is something that early dungeon crawlers were missing and it makes the experience way better. All in all Zen delivered a great throwback rpg and I hope it is a great success because I would love to see more like it.

The ending levels are painfully setup with harder enemies, and whatever power you got, you can't defend yourself with weaklings. There is no grinding solution and a flagrant combat balance problem. Another bad decision was to make the secrets finding a mandatory thing to advance the main quest. Bad decision. The voices overs and the graphics are pretty nice. Even the music is really good. I give it a 68%. I think it's the kind of title that is border amateur and AAA title.

All you need to recharge all hit points and mana of your party is a piece of "firewood", and the game throws the stuff at you. Once you realize that, it kinda breaks the game. There's no reason to not just spam your biggest spells in every fight, and even worse, there's no real reason to resort to melee combat at all, which does far less damage. This game was obviously aiming to be a friendlier version of Grimrock, but they went too far and drained it of all tension or sense of survival. What's left is nice scenery, and combat that feels like you're using a cheat code. I played on "normal" difficulty, and there was no way to switch mid-game, so maybe I missed the real challenge. But in any case, normal difficulty shouldn't feel like you've enabled a bunch of cheat codes.

Operencia: The Stolen Sun should appeal to a range of gamers: fans of well made, turn-based RPGs and anyone looking for a budget title that hasn’t compromised graphics or mechanics will also appreciate it. The game doesn’t take a lot of chances but there is plenty of depth and replayability in its character leveling and crafting systems and while it may seem easy in the first few hours, combat difficulty increases and the puzzles become challenging as the game progresses.

Operencia: The Stolen Sun shouldn’t be skipped. What is here is a wonderful RPG that is welcoming to veterans and newcomers alike. Because this is on Microsoft Game Pass there is absolutely no reason to not give this game a shot. There is absolutely something for everyone who enjoys RPGs.

I never really became frustrated but I did take it in the face a few times battling some of the tougher enemies. When I first heard about Operencia: The Stolen Sun I was surprised to hear the game wasn't the fine pinball we've come to know and love from Zen Studios. This was a good decision to show that Zen can provide more than what we've seen over the year and it's always great to see a studio known for making great games to put it's talents to use in other genres. When beginning the game the graphics were nice and fluid despite taking me a few minutes to game the feel of the movement within the game. Thanks to the beautiful graphics and immersive sound design, the story pulls you in quickly. In regards to the combat I’m pleased to say that they’ve done a quality job here. The battles and puzzles present in the game had me quickly forget about the limited environment movement. Operencia: The Stolen Sun is a game that takes you on a fantastic journey and the overall mechanics in the game feel refined and I'm sure if your a fan of a good dungeon crawler, he's your chance to play a game they were nice enough to add to gamepads for many to enjoy for their small subscription fee. Keep up the good work Zen Studios!

Dialog is all skippable though. But I appreciated the cheesy banter between your characters as you explored the dungeons all the same. There's no pause, you can keep exploring as they talk which is genius.- Combat's fun and straight forward. I appreciated that the combat was turn based, yet fast, and that there was no real time system where you constantly felt pressured as things attacked youHonestly this isn't what I was expecting. This is a serious, solid effort. There’s some warts like the weak story, some generic 2D art, etc. But it doesn’t detract from the core gameplay. Apparently there's more to Zen than just being "the pinball company." It's pretty clear they've got talent for this. Hopefully we'll see this game on other platforms down the road so everyone gets a chance to see it.

There is also alot of humor in the game, not only with the quest lines but also on items you pick up. The game looks nice and the music is easy on the ears. Only thing I sometimes have is that I donno what I can click on and what not (like that darn torch on the wall) Items glow doh.

Best of all, though, this world is so stunning that you'll just look at the trees, the water, the rocks--everything. It’s a shame that some of the puzzle solutions are needlessly frustrating and present significant obstacles in getting through the story, but aside from that Operencia provides a truly special experience.

En effet, en vue subjective, on s'épargne bien du boulot en termes de modélisation et de graphismes puisque les personnages ne sont pas là mais simplement résumés à leurs portraits.Quoi qu'il en soit, du tour par tour en vue subjective, c'est aussi captivant que faire des réussites au Solitaire : c'est antinomique et complètement con. En dehors des combats, le chemin est bien balisé lorsqu'on se déplace sur les cases comme jadis, bien balisé et scripté. Les décors ne sont pas vilains même si l'aspect général reste trop lisse. Ce qui est très vilain par contre, c'est les "cinématiques", des petites animations flash en 2D et 3 couleurs au goût douteux.L'interface est globalement perfectible mais c'est surtout le déplacement qui pose problème : tout se fait par à-coups, car la manette est mal calibrée : la zone neutre est énorme et l'accélération trop élevée. C'est juste horrible !Enfin, dès le début du jeu, on vous casse les pieds (pour ne pas dire autre chose) avec des miroirs à aligner... putain mais avec une telle "maniabilité", c'est simplement insupportable ! et ça m'a soûlé direct.Cette daube est tombée directement dans le Game Pass et on comprend pourquoi... Normalement ça coûte 30 boules quand même. Encore un indé foiré, du classique en somme.
