That said, my daughter, who grew up with many of these characters, still had a blast and laughed as she’d beat me up with random animated characters in their various color-splashed cartoon levels. Depending on the crowd, things like roster depths and long-standing Nintendo lore don’t have as much pull, nostalgia and familiarity can win. This game was clearly victim to the infamous trends of being rushed out for the holidays and because it's got the Nickelodeon name on. The only redeeming factor is that we get some not all memorable characters from the 90s and early 2000s. They could've used audio clips from the shows as compensation for the voice actors/actresses that have aged or died. But hey, this is a 4th party game we shouldn't be surprised that this cheap cash grab was DOA.

Seriously, why release something with so little effort?

Ultimately, the success of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl lies in how lively its online community is. We’ve found players easily enough so far, but who knows if they’ll stick around. It’ll be a shame if they don’t though, because this is a competent brawler. Its pleasant visuals, varied roster of beloved characters and surprisingly deep combat make it one of the better Smash-type games out there. But if there’s nobody online to play with, its offline content will quickly lose its fun.
