While no review can cover every aspect of a game, overall the first year on Switch is nothing short of a success for The Show. The most realistic baseball sim remains just that, all the while being portable. For any baseball fan, The Show is a must-buy. For any sports fan, The Show is a must-buy. With more content dropping throughout the year (and patches to improve the experience too), there's more than enough bang for your buck.

The new commentary seemed good at first after listening to Matty V all 21 which got very old and annoying but somehow the new commentators aren’t any better and don’t fit at all. Hitting is ass backwards most late and early hits are guaranteed singles when you can hit the ball perfectly with a player who has decently good power and it’s like you’re using a wet noodle. Lineouts are very ridiculous in this game and it’s embarrassing off pci very late hits for home runs how does that make any sense? 21 had lineouts but it was much more tolerable this game takes it to a whole new level of wtf am I playing rn. The new pinpoint pitching nerf is ok I guess? Wasn’t really needed that’s really the only thing gameplay wise that’s new and pci anchor with hitting which is basically pointless no one really cares about it. I was playing the game fine for a few weeks then randomly it wants to completely break and now my game is laggy and I can’t even use pinpoint anymore or hit. The PCI lags around and I’m on Xbox series X btw so yeah it’s poorly optimized on a 500 dollar next gen console I never had these issues with 21. I haven’t touched the game in weeks because of this and don’t plan on ever playing it again until there’s a patch for hitting even then idk if I’ll play it again. I think because 21 performed and sold so well they decided to just not care at all this year and give their fans a pathetic excuse of a baseball game. MLB The Show 22 doesn´t need too much to become one of the best sports videogame every year, and maybe this is its biggest problem. Without any competition, this franchise is taking the risk of complacency. Despite of that, we are talking about an extremely solid game, one more season.

Additionally, while improved trade logic was supposed to show up in this year’s game, I was still able to trade for Shohei Ohtani with just a handful of my second-tier players; trades remain a bit too easy to execute in this game (NBA 2K’s sliders are recommended as the fix here). And there are still no custom created draft classes, meaning your Franchise mode eventually winds up with a host of random players if you play it long enough. (I’d love to see historic draft classes in this game)...It all prevents an intriguing game from reaching its ultimate potential. MLB The Show 22 sets a new bar in one category, and every sports game can learn a lesson from it. And it’s fun enough. There’s just more potential to be unlocked, hopefully next year.

Stadiums are so pared down they look like minor league fields, the field of view from the batter's POV is nothing short of awful, and frame rate performance is inconsistent at best. Cross-play works as advertised but I wouldn't recommend online play with it as it's sluggish. It's great for taking your Road to the Show career on the road with you, however.MLB The Show 22 is a quintessential example of the sacrifices that must be made for a modern game to run on Switch's aging hardware. The ONLY reason to buy this is portability. If you can play on any other console, including last gen, I can't recommend this version.

Nothing new is added in the game. Road to the show feels the same as it did 10 years ago, and so does franchise. Diamond dynasty seems like this is the only thing they care about. Because they get $$$$. Stay away from this game. THIS IS THE NEW MADDEN!

My overall opinion is really just asking myself why I didn't play the MLB The Show franchise more throughout the years. I can only imagine what kind of difference has been made with each iteration. This year for sure has made me a new fan, and I plan to continue to check out the franchise as the years go on. I found I want to log in every day to see what new cards I was getting and to see if I could improve my skills more and more, and they have. I will definitely play this homerun more throughout the year.

With how barren the world of licensed baseball games have been on Nintendo systems, even if MLB The Show was a middling port with a token amount of modes, it would have been an oasis in the desert. Luckily, MLB The Show 22 on Switch is so much more than that. It has all of the modes of the 4K versions, including the wonderful March to October, Road to the Show, and Diamond Dynasty offerings. While the online and visual aspects falter at times, the good far outweighs the bad here, as MLB The Show 22 is one of the best sports games of its kind and the Switch version is an excellent way to play it portably and an acceptable way to play it on a television. Here’s hoping The Show is a perennial All-Star on Switch because I could get used to having an assortment of killer baseball games on Nintendo systems again.

MLB The Show 22 refines its legacy and its well tested game modes, while adding some cool new features like online co-op play. You can play addicting Dynasty Mode with one or two friends and, for the first time in the series, there is cross-play and cross-platform support. While not adding anything revolutionary, cross-platform is the major sell point of this year edition, helping to build one cohesive community.

All the existing game modes are still there, although they are feeling very stale at this point, specifically Road to the Show, which is starting to feel archaic relative to other career modes found in NBA 2K and even the NHL series in spite of the new two-way player option. Diamond Dynasty is better than other card collecting modes in that it's rather easy to build a great team without spending real world money, but the mode feels so old at this point and nothing has been new in quite some time other than new player licenses. Franchise mode is also practically unchanged from years past save for contract logic refinement. The big new feature is an all-new commentary crew, which has been demanded for some time now. However, the new crew was clearly not given enough to do, as their lines repeat so unbelievably often and the commentary is very surface level compared to what we had before, with very few player names being used and it sounding very choppy when it is the case. While this year's version of the Show plays just as well as any version before, unless you've got Gamepass, this year's game is probably worth skipping, as there's simply nothing truly worth upgrading for. SDS needs to think outside the box next year and develop some new modes and features to keep the game fresh for those who can't upgrade for free on Xbox.

At the end of the day, MLB The Show 22 doesn´t bring much to the table in terms of innovation, but when it comes to gameplay and game modes, that's where it really shines. It may be worth noting that there can be occasional stutters in FPS when on cutscenes but the gaming itself is fairly fluid and it is great to pick up and play. Overall, its fantastic to have MLB the show to play handheld on the go again after all those years on from the show on PS VITA.Im sure there may be some stability patches to come in time over the next year, but out of the box this is a very solid port if you can look past the obvious downgrades from the next gen versions.

For a game that showcases perhaps the most dynamic and wholesome athlete in generations, MLB The Show 22 ironically feels like the flattest and safest version of itself.

Outside of a few small gripes I do have with the somewhat clunky career mode, a mediocre soundtrack, and awkward character expressions that can subtract from the fantasy at times, this is yet another damn fine baseball game from Sony San Diego that isn’t quite a home run, but still manages to fly deep enough into left field to put some more points on the board.

Everything in Diamond Dynasty (DD) has been "condensed" according to SDS; in truth they simply removed 2/3 of previous years content. In years past you could earn in game currency at a fairly decent rate,this year it's slowed to a snails crawl. If you have an Xbox get it for free on gamepass otherwise I'd pass on this turd and just load up 21.

The ultimate question is whether you should play MLB The Show 22 on Switch. Well, it depends. If it's your main or only platform and you're happy playing CPU and offline games, then yes, it's not bad and holds things together just enough for gameplay to be enjoyable. If you want an 'on-the-go' version to accompany a more powerful home console version, perhaps on Game Pass, then it's another yes. If you want to mainly play online in Diamond Dynasty? No, this isn't the way to go. MLB The Show 22 is admirably packed with content and features, but it's not entirely comfortably packed into the diminutive Switch. It lacks the fluidity and crispness found elsewhere, which is perhaps expected but doesn't change the fact. If you're happy with the compromises, though, then step up to the plate.
