If you have to choose PC or Xbox, choose PC hands down. I mean the game isn't a 10 on PC either, but it's not even a 4 on Xbox. Just a bad game period on Xbox Series S. If you love the franchise and can't play on PC, maybe you should try it.

When your mech takes heavy damage, you lose components that need to be replaced, and which oftentimes aren't available, so you have to go to other systems to find them. It's realistic in that sense, but I don't believe being a Mechwarrior quartermaster is what the series was missing.The core gameplay of blowing up mechs is fun, but also repetitive and annoying. I find myself really disliking controlling mechs on the Xbox, because moving and aiming are difficult with a controller. You can't aim and see where your mech is going at the same time. All the while it's like controlling someone moving underwater. It must be said though, nailing an assault mech's weak point with dual PPC cannons, or hitting something at long range with a full salvo of missiles, carries a satisfaction that you seldom experience in today's games.

I love the intricacy of maintaining a heavy enough Lance to beat the missions later on in the game, but the thrill of going around looking for mechs across the galaxy as well.. I would like to see the old mansion missions come back, where we would have to go defend or destroy a mansion in a mission, also I want bigger cities. Actual cities that feel real. I also suggest connecting the cities with roads. There is a lot of room for improvement but is a very promising game . Graphics are absolutely bad but good enough to enjoy the game. The game is better than most games so graphics aren't AS important but still would be amazing to have a game with way better graphics. The controls are amazing on ps4. Good job pirhana.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is a lot of fun for fans of the BattleTech franchise. It may not be the flashiest game around, and its story can be very campy at times. But this is pretty much your best bet for playing a ‘Mech game on a PlayStation console. If you have (online) friends, co-op will likely provide some extra thrills, and the generous DLC support is great to see. It may be a bit rough around the edges, but MechWarrior 5 is more than welcome on PlayStation after all this time.

Loading times seem to be from a PS4 with a spinning HDD, too. The game missions are very repetitive. The controls for mech repair and adjustment are insane, you always have to either take a flight or a fight for the repairs to happen. Can’t readjust after committing, even though the repairs have not started since you are not flying or fighting. Well, it is a Mech game. But seems like it could be two decades old.

Controls are somewhat intuitive; making you feel as if you are in control of a BattleMech. The controls can kind of get in the way and slow down the pacing of the game and combat.Another complaint that I have is the menu system in between missions. You have to negotiate contracts, buy, sell, install, and repair parts to your Mech. While I appreciate that this adds a degree of "realism" to the game, again, like the controls, they distract from gameplay and combat.This game was very obviously tailored for PC play and was not localized for console playing. This isn't a very good port.The graphics look decidedly 7th gen, and I hope to see a Nintendo Switch port of this game with streamlined controls, seeing as how the Switch is a hardware middleweight.The dialogue and story are forgettable. Overall, okay-ish play with some unnecessary things added in for the console experience. Clumsy controls that you may or may not get used to with dated graphics, average sound, and totally lackluster storyline.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is no doubt among the best Xbox platform exclusives of 2021, and a staggering showcase for your console of choice. It manages to translate an ambitious PC epic almost seamlessly into a console experience, where the play mechanics and control scheme are mapped perfectly onto the Xbox controller.

Yes, the graphics aren't up to par, the AI is bad, the port at times tells you to input PC commands and there's so little combat that the game turns into a managing resources simulator. Regardless of all this, Piranha Games delivers an enjoyable single player mech experience that will keep you playing for many months to come. If you're a fan of mech games, then this should definitely be on your radar.

Despite how overwhelming and confusing it can be, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries certainly has something to offer players who want to get stuck into the fine details of setting up their own interstellar mercenary outfit. The combat can be fun, if deliberately slow, and once set up right having a powerful mech wrecking shop is entertaining. It’s just the bits in between that can drag, with confusing menus and systems that aren’t fully explained.

The core of the game is solid, and the financial dread of being a badass is something rarely explored in video games. I recommend playing MechWarrior 5 in co-op with a friend, as I found coordinating builds and strategies with someone really added a layer of fun and replayability to the contracts.

When there is 12 plus bogies on the screen and you are assaulting a base in a Blackjack trying to lay down the suppression fire long enough while sniping turrets and helicopters for your three AI controlled lancemates to help you pull through it is TENSE.The physical experience of switching from a Blackjack to a Vindicator is so impactful! On paper they really are not that much different. In piloting the different loadouts and weapons make you feel like you are piloting a different mech. This is so downplayed by the two other titles.Your skill as a pilot here really helps you out.MWO dosen't quite have the longevity of a mercenary comapny. The MWO experience is similiar to this (though not nearly as impactful) but it feels like a skirmish simulator and while online with big battles it just dosen't hold my interest (not to mention the grind is high). In addition it's really hard to be tactical because you get smoked SO FAST by huge groups of players. It's very chaotic and (for me at least) boils down to very basic tactics you have to adhere to to not get dog-piled cored. BATTLEMECH is great in it's own rights but you don't have as strong as a visceral experience due to it being a slow paced top down tactics game (which I love but I don't feel like I am a pilot, more a general commanding troops).Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries blends the two into a sublime balance.It's not perfect across the board and could use some fine tuning so I give it a 9 instead of a ten.I hope it continues to get some more development love because I am having a blast and I think anybody who enjoys MWO and BATTLEMECH is missing out if they don't give this game the chance it deserves.
