The biggest problem I have with Hellpoint's graphics are intertwined with my issues with the level design. They are simply too one-dimensional. Where Dark Souls had compact and diverse areas, Hellpoint sprawls through corridor after corridor of familiar steampunk backgrounds. This made me get lost a lot in levels due to each area looking so familiar that I couldn't tell where I was in a level. Overall, the graphics make the game harder to enjoy and harder to play.The gameplay is an interesting one. The brief experience I had with it left me with the impression that unfortunately it was just a poor-man’s Dark Souls again. The controls are almost identical and the attributes and stats function almost identical to Dark Souls. Curiously I wasn’t able to do back-stabs, which I’m guessing were not included in the game.It wouldn’t be a Souls-like without mentioning the difficulty. I didn’t find my time overly difficult. What I found was most of the difficulty came from bad level design, having to traverse long, repetitive and confusing areas with only one ‘bonfire’ that I could find. This was very problematic as when I entered the Embassy and met my first true OP enemy, it created a vicious circle of death and looping back for my souls, souring me on the game massively.The story of Hellpoint also tries much too hard to imitate Souls by being cryptic and minimalistic in how it is conveyed. This doesn’t really work as well for Hellooint simply because the gameplay and visuals aren’t there to complement it.Overall, Hellpoint tries far too hard to imitate Dark Souls instead of distinguishing itself from Dark Souls. It is a very unmemorable cheap knock-off that made me put it down very quickly, whereas Souls kept me pushing through to the end. I understand Hellpoint came from a small team and a tiny budget, but that cannot forgive the mundane and bad gameplay and level design. I don’t see the point of suffering through an inferior version of Dark Souls having already completed the original game.

Dark sci-fi Hellpoint sits smack-dab in the centre of soulslikes quality-wise. It's not terrible, but it's far from a good one too. Should you wait for a price drop, and a couple of fixes for its technical issues? Frankly, no. The strong atmosphere and cryptic plot have the capacity to provide the incentive to endure the many flaws and keep on playing, but aggravation and plain 'ol boredom will soon ruin everything. IF still willing to try it out, stay away from the Switch port, as it is the worse one yet.

Hellpoint is a satisfying sci-fi twist in the Soulslike universe, it brings an interesting setting and adds a lot of surprisingly positive mechanics to this gender. On the other hand, the Switch version is a bit lackluster as it comes with unimpressive graphics and general performance issues that compromise the experience for most players who are eager for a great Soulslike experience.

It's not that Hellpoint lacks ambition, but unfortunately it cannotdeliver on what it promises. Hellpoint is an action RPG that takes a lot of inspiration from the Souls series. While the combat is engaging, the framerate is a major detraction. Hiding the story as breadcrumbs in hard to find logs or cryptic messages is detrimental to what could be an interesting story. As well, the environments and enemy design did little to stand out overall. The bugs, framerate drops, and rare crashes were present, but as of this review the developers have plans to address these issues in future patches. While this is a new addition to the Soulsborne genre, there are far more successful examples out there. Fans of the genre may want to look elsewhere.

It all adds up to a game that is frustrating for all the wrong reasons. It’s not unplayable, and it’s fair to say the Souls series has suffered its own share of technical issues over the years, but it’s awfully hard to recommend Hellpoint in this particular state.

The combat here is solid, the space station setting often spectacular and the narrative as enticingly cryptic as you'd expect from the genre. However, the whole thing suffers massively due to myriad technical issues on Switch. Constant crashes to the console's homescreen, a seriously flaky framerate, long loading times and a pretty huge graphical downgrade result in an experience that's infuriating for all the wrong reasons and one that it's almost impossible to recommend in its current form. Here's hoping Cradle Games has some big patches incoming.

This is one of my favorite junior soulslikes and I think the people who didn't like it aren't really looking for a Souls"like". I think maybe (just maybe, as I really don't get the complaints) they're either looking for something for children, or they're looking for an exact copy of dark Souls. I highly recommend it. It's got tons of interesting gameplay innovations, It's utterly beautiful, the level design is unlike any other Souls game, and it has a horror vibe that most other scifi Souls games don't even attempt. Controls are great, i just adore it. My only complaint is that the omnicube BADLY NEEDS A BETTER EXPLANATION FOR NOOBS. My first play through i was so frustrated with just equipping it and trying to make it work predictably. Maybe I merely missed something, cuz I couldn't even find one online. Which must mean others didn't have that problem. Anyway, killer game.

There is a nice incremental reveal of background story and plot as you progress through the game. A fair number of weapons and builds / playstiles are available to suit different styles and tastes, while at the same time a certain simplicity to the crafting and upgrading system is retained which makes the game pleasantly accessible. I am really enjoying the atmosphere of dread while exploring the game´s world, which has a large and expansive feel to it despite playing on a space station. Coop multplayer is running smoothly in my experience so far and I haven´t encountered any glitches. Terrific art and soundtrack. This is excellent value for money, much more so than I was expecting when I purchased the game, so congrats to the developers for having made such an outstanding production as a low-budget set-up.Watch the movie Event Horizon if you want to double up on the demonic horror vibes!

A happy marriage of deep space horror and Souls-like ruthlessness, Hellpoint is a nice game, but there’s still some room to grow.

If you’re a Souls fan, you’ll most likely enjoy Hellpoint, as long as you can handle its lack of polish and extremely janky platforming. It would have been easy to write off Hellpoint as a simple Souls knock off, and I almost did until I found a friend to play alongside. It’s unforgiving in every aspect and doesn’t hold your hand in any way, something Souls fans will appreciate. The co-op feature makes it much more accessible for casual fans of the genre like myself, but there’s enough content within to really test yourself with for those accustomed to difficult challenges.

Hellpoint is still not a fully polished project, unpleasantly surprising with wonky hitboxes, terrible jumping mechanics and poor attack animations. It can still appeal to fans of Souls-like games, if they have already tried all the hits in this genre and dream of a dark story in the vast expanses of cold and boundless space.

A dark and terrifying adventure that many may go into, but only a few survive. The good is met with the bad, evening out the quality to being pretty decent. While the design of enemies and combat are great, the flaws (in my opinion) lay in the confusing areas and much too well-hidden secrets. The lack of resources that would allow you to travel hinders the overall experience. No map, limited fast travel, and zero direction on what to do next will be confusing enough to stop you from completing the game. Is it difficult? Yes, but not all in the sense of combat. It’s difficult to continue on with the journey because of hurdles that slow down the pacing. I thought leveling up was great and dying only made me try harder. However, doing simple tasks like dismantling items or picking your next weapon was a chore.

In its own way Hellpoint seems like a signature Soulslike, because despite all the mechanics it borrowed from its inspirational series, Cradle Games managed to make an original game. It's a game designed for lovers of the genre, although not for purists, and it has received constant support from the development team so it is expected that future patches will solve the performance problems.

Hellpoint clearly does take inspirations from multiple other works, but some of these influences don’t go far beyond the superficial. The sci-fi horror vibe is appreciated, but for my taste the game doesn’t lean far enough into the dread and scares this could afford. Instead, it adheres fairly strictly to that familiar Souls-like quality, though it does admittedly do so successfully. Environments and the thrill of exploring them shine as a particular highlight, while combat is, if nothing else, serviceable. Some missed opportunities in world-building and being a bit too open-ended are among the few blemishes present, making Hellpoint a solid recommendation for those who aren’t afraid to try something a bit darker.

So if you're looking for an experience similar to Dark Souls, but with a different story and a great exploration factor, Hellpoint is your game.

Emailed Dev, no help, don't care. So after 3 days we did it again. Both got to level 101. Stopped for awhile, started again and POOF, back down to level 21, but this time, weapons gone, breaches gone, everything - gone. So I wasted nearly 20 hours of time playing a game that I can never play again. Save your money until the devs take this seriously and fix it. Right now it is useless.

The game is filled with secrets, with exploration really being a hugely important part of the game. I have encountered a few bugs, but nowhere near what others have been saying. The game might not have triple A studio graphics, but gameplay wise I've really been enjoying it. I'd probably give this game a 7, or maybe an 8 based on how many hours I've sunk in, but I'm adding some points to balance the overly harsh reviews. This looks like it's from a small indie studio, and what a great effort from a small team! All I can say is give us more cosmic horror dark souls!

Hellpoint on Xbox One has a lot of good points; certainly enough to recommend it. It’s dark, creepy and brutal - all the things you want from a Souls-type game. On the other hand, a seeming lack of polish does spoil the party somewhat, with camera issues killing me more often than the creatures, and a strange kind of weightlessness to the attacks present.

The truth of Hellpoint is that even with all the jank and annoyance, it’s working with a well-known and beloved formula in an interesting setting, with enough tweaks to feel like its own thing. All of the satisfaction from near-deaths against big bosses and slow mastery of enemies and mechanics is here, it’s just dressed differently. The technical issues and world progression hold Hellpoint back, but for fans of the Soulsborne or sci-fi horror genre it’s worth checking out.

Hellpoint is a recommended game, even if not for everyone. If you are not a soulslike fan, spending about twenty hours in a less refined game than a "Souls-Borne" is certainly not a wise choice. If, on the other hand, you are a big fan of the genre, give it a chance as long as you are willing to ignore small but numerous bugs.

Hellpoint is a challenging and interesting RPG in a similar vein to Dark Souls, but maybe not as difficult. It is still unforgiving though, and best played with others to stand a real chance of progressing. The online multiplayer needs some work to iron out some issues, but if you like games that pose a real challenge then this could be for you. The fact that I couldn’t find any real strategy to take down difficult enemies made this hard for me to play by myself.

Hellpoint does have its moments where a few fist pumps will be elicited after killing some of the bosses. The moments in between, however, were crushing. Sections that needed repeating without knowing where to go, what to do, or even why hurt Hellpoint's gameplay a lot. It was a confusing, frustrating experience, but Dark Souls players might feel its right up their alley and get a ton of enjoyment out of the title, and that really does seem to be the target audience for Hellpoint.

For those seeking for a good Action RPG "Souls-like", Hellpoint delivers some satisfying gameplay alongside with a hard path to be followed in order to finish the game, a great endgame adding a good replay value in a sci-fi-horror world with non so inspired characters/enemies designs. Some good elements like the coop options are really enjoyable. However, PC version looks great for being the first game ever made from the studio, but sadly there are many and big differences between the PC and consoles ports, becoming a technical failure in a lot of ways and making the player struggles most of the time with these tech problems instead of enjoying the game.

There were many times in my playthrough of Hellpoint where I had the same delicious salad of feelings that I get with Dark Souls — frustration at my own carelessness, need to try again or satisfaction at besting a challenging encounter — but these highs were balanced by some disappointments with the design that seemed to intentionally frustrate. Even more than Nioh, The Surge, or Remnant, Hellpoint goes all in with the Dark Souls model. When it’s good, it’s great; when it’s not, it just reminds you why Dark Souls is and will be a classic.

Hellpoint is certainly cut from the all-too-familiar Souls cloth when it comes to character progression and combat, but it's the sense of exploration that makes this one Soulslike that shouldn't be missed.
