When I finally picked it up, I was blown away by how great this game was. I've heard it compared to Bioware games of old and I 100% agree. I find this game to be a masterpiece in every regard. My expectations were low, and thus this game exceeded them in every way.I've decided to purchase some prior Spiders RPGS to support the developer Spiders (Bound by Flame; Mars War Logs; and The Technomancer). I have not played these games yet and am well aware that their quality will likely be much less than Greedfall's, but I was so impressed with Greedfall that now I want to support Spiders at all costs.

The characters are also mostly lame, with none standing out are particularly endearing or realistic. The color palate of the game is dreadful and far too dark and brown. Occasionally the in-game day/night cycle allows for some color to peek through but the majority of my 40 hours have been very drab. I would love a sequel that tackles the colonialism themes with a bit more tact, because it sure is fun to play.

The story won’t blow you away, but it’s still plenty engaging enough to give incentive to advance the main quest. Facial animations are stiff, and the voice acting is okay, and although the accents can be corny, they may have a charm to some players.The combat is similar to that of The Witcher 3, but you aren’t as limited to what works against most enemies. You can experiment with different builds and approaches, as the game gives you several opportunities to reallocate all of your attribute/skill points as you play through.Objectives can feel like fetch quests sometimes, but the tediousness of such tasks is alleviated by the world being broken into small regions, similar to Outer Worlds, so traversing doesn’t take long at all. In between loading said regions, you can make any preparations in a small camp as you wait. The load times, however, are instant on PS5, now, in case you don’t need to wait or make preparations. If you’re hesitant about playing this, the PS4 version is currently on PS Now. I went ahead and bought the Gold Edition to support the developers, as this game definitely has me looking forward to what they can accomplish with more resources.

The De Vespe Conspiracy is a great addon to the Greedfall base game. The unravelling of the tangle of lies and mayhem caused was fun to play through. The missions and side quests were interesting and varied enough and it played through like a fun episode. It’s unfortunately too short for my liking and is not likely to bring back old players, but those new to the game would do well to add this to their playthrough.

GreedFall for PlayStation 5 remains one of the best role-playing games of recent times, but with a much better overall presentation. As for the new expansion - it's something aimed to die-hard fans of the original campaign.

Fans of the genre will still enjoy the broad narrative, exciting combat and deep RPG mechanics. Those returning just for the DLC might be disappointed, but newcomers will have a good time with Greedfall Gold Edition.

The return to Teer Fradee largely disappoints in the De Vespe Conspiracy, although the PlayStation 5 upgrade works well. I wanted so much more in something called an expansion, even if the cost said I should temper my expectations. The De Vespe Conspiracy still tells an enjoyable tale, but the surrounding new enemies, empty location, and anticlimactic ending make for something akin to getting a dinner mint as a dessert rather than the chocolate melting cake.

GreeFall: Gold Edition is an update that offers more defined textures and adds 4K and 60fps support. A good addition to Spiders’ best game yet.

GreedFall was and remains a great action RPG, fun and with a quality setting. Even now, therefore, we recommend the base game, even more than the Gold Edition.
