Graphics looks way better than Far Cry 3, technological develop is noticeable on every step. Also audio binding was worth admiring. Pagan Min is in no way worse than memorable Vaas from the previous game. Story is good enough, important choices meanwhile are quite simple and limited, but it does not bother. There is huge number of side activities, which are more interesting and varied than in 2012, but few of them are ridiculous. Sometimes the content is too repeteable, which artificially makes game bigger.Nevertheless discovering great, open world in Far Cry 4 with the improved gameplay was really fun. Excellent shooter - not everywhere you are able to shoot to a hippo, drive over one opponent and sneak to kill another one.

I didn't finish Far Cry 3. It was too easy and the hand holding was unbearable. I was going to skip Far Cry 4 and someone told me they QTEsI didn't finish Far Cry 3. It's so easy, it's boring. I thought it might get better. Then it happened. I recovered some supplies and suddenly I have 2 minutes and 10 seconds to get them somewhere they needed to go.I uninstalled Uplay and both FC3 and FC4. I'll keep Far Cry 2, it was the best of the bunch.

The opening and tutorial portions are great, and a number of the early engagements are really cool with enemies that are dangerous in the open, and allow you to use a number of different strategies to take them out. Unfortunately, the fights and missions grow stale pretty quickly, and the map is too packed with events. You can barely take two steps before a convoy or ambush or assassination target pops on screen. Several hours in, it's also clear that there's tons more of the same waiting ahead. The idea of a "sandbox" really fits, as the game isn't really immersive, but it's a fun way to pass the time.Your character's arc is a bit rushed, and you go from disinterested party to mindless rebel killing machine in no time at all. The weapons are hilariously unbalanced. I got access to a hunting rifle and a dragunov around the same time, one of which took about 10 shots to take down an enemy while the other could one-shot most baddies. And the grenade launcher is just the superior pick for almost every engagement. There's very little progression as you're introduced to almost every vehicle in the first 30 minutes. I was quite surprised to gain access to a gyrocopter so early on, giving a level of freedom (and breaking player immersion) that is usually locked until the late game in most games. I would've liked to feel a bit more locked in the forests and mountains until later on when I'd mastered the mechanics.In the end, much of the map just feel copy-pasted, and the game would offer a similar experience with 1/2 the real-estate. Rather than having a meaningful progression, there are a half-dozen outposts between the major fortresses, and none of the outposts really do much except offer a new fast-travel point.

If you are trying to be stealthy and the last guy alive saw you, you have to start all over again. Last 20 minutes gone to waste.- Cannot replay story missions. I am not even kidding. You have to start a new game if you want to replay a fun campaign mission.- Very limited types of enemies: rifle dude, armored rifle dude, sniper, bow dude, rocket dude, flame / machine guy dude. And animals.Far Cry series is following the steps of Assassin's Creed. Which is same old game dynamics in a slightly different setting. Won't be buying the next Far Cry game that's for sure.

But I have some rather scathing things to say when taking history into account.There was a time when the word 'sequel' meant bigger, better, and more features, and implied innovation and a desire from both the developer and the consumer for the game to exceed the boundaries set by its predecessor.Well, now it's the 21st century, and Ubisoft has done away with such outdated and archaic notions as 'definitions' and 'innovation'. The number '4' in the title Far Cry 4 does not denote it's place in a series, only it's place in the chronology of releases, for Far Cry 4 is, for all intents and purposes, the exact same game as Far Cry 3. Ubisoft has internally redefined 'sequel' to mean 'a minor variation of the previous iteration in order to draw the game closer to being a mass-appealing cash factory'. And it found its mark with FC3. Returning in FC4 is the same gunplay, the same game mechanics, the same unnecessary upgrade system, the same graphics engine, the same 'everyman-cum-superhero' protagonist, the same enigmatic villain, the same fetch quests - albeit with a little more polish: the visuals are marginally prettier and utilise some nice new lighting effects, the gunplay is a little tighter and more enjoyable, and the menus are filled with more 'things' to spend your cash on. But it seems that Ubisoft has forgone the opportunity for innovation in favour of seeking to address the main complaints in the laziest possible way, for example: replacing FC3's unlikable protagonist with FC4's safe, bland one. And, as is typical with this game, this is a change, not an improvement. It's as if Ubisoft heard the complaints about the FC3 protagonist and instead of understanding that the real issue was a lack of depth and congruity within the character, they simply thought that people didn't like a guy that was a dick occasionally. So instead of making a deeper character, they sucked all the personality out of the protagonist - which would be fine if they hadn’t gone out of their way to give him a distinct presence in the game, which refuses the player the chance to imagine themselves as the character. Ajay Ghale isn’t faceless, he’s just empty within. And it’s not even as if they’ve given the player the courtesy of being self-aware about how lazy they’ve been. After stealthily slaughtering a dozen soldiers, one of your character’s first lines is ‘I’m not a soldier, but I want to help’. BAM - immediate incongruity. It’s insulting to your intelligence, and straight away it triggers the same disconnect you felt in FC3.Now, in saying all this - the game is FUN. And creating a fun, popcorn shooter that’s all-adventure all the time is a completely valid endeavour. In some ways I feel that FC4 has gone the way of Saints Row in that it seems to go out of its way to give you tonnes of vehicles and OP weapons from the very beginning, foregoing all restraint in order to maximise the raw FUN factor. But I can’t stand the fact that Ubisoft has, once again, gotten their hands on a series that I loved, assimilated it into their formulaic release equation, and once they get their hands on a money-making combination, churn out carbon copies with a successive numerical value slapped on the end.So should you buy it? Believe it or not, I do think that there is a genuine, no **** condition under which this is a good purchase. I read a review that stated that if you liked FC3, then you should buy FC4, which I feel has it all wrong, because if you like FC3 and buy FC4, you're paying money for what is essentially the same experience in a different setting, and that is a rip-off. I liked FC3, and after playing FC4 I was bored half an hour in because I’d done it all before, and I would not recommend buying it full price. *HOWEVER* if you don’t own FC3, then I think that FC4 is potentially a better game, if only ever so slightly.What do you like – mountains or islands? It's Far Cry 3 sporting a likable psychotic antagonist and a less douchy protagonist. Baby steps by Ubisoft, but steps none-the-less.

Even if it had made serious strides over Far Cry 3, even if the gameplay held true to the series's core, even if its story weren't junk, even if it had been put together perfectly, I would still find Far Cry 4 annoying as hell. It's not just that Ubisoft can't execute; it seems like they can't design anymore. To compensate, they've just slapped whatever crap they can onto an open world in the desperate hope that large portions will make up for the flavorlessness of the meal. Instead, I got sick of chewing, and longed for the days when Far Cry just shut up and let me shoot some guns.

One could still wish for a better story, for more choice and consequence in your actions or for an end to the nagging collect-em-up nature of the Ubiworld. But for sheer daft mayhem, this is now the action game to beat.

The story might be pale and the characters are bland and boring, butit is easy to forgive since it is so damn fun to free Kyrat. It doesnot matter if you prefer to sneak around and hide in bushes and trees,or just charge into an enemy camp on an elephants back. Far Cry 4will not be a classic that people will talk about years to come, butit will entertain you greatly while it lasts.

Hopefully Ubisoft can give us more in the inevitable Far Cry 5.

Full of an overwhelming amount of stuff to do this is insane value for money and pretty to boot. Still, we can't help but feel a shake-up is needed for Far Cry 5 to prevent series fatigue.

Despite all the flaws, Far Cry 4 pounds out an open-world FPS maelstrom of ridiculousness. It’s always in your face and it’s never afraid to throw numerous and diverse dangers in your path, just to see if you can adapt and survive.

Far Cry 4 doesn't have the element of surprise afforded its praised predecessor but does more than enough to live outside its shadow, and thus stands alone as a great game in its own right.

It takes what the last game did, and makes it better, but at the same time it's because of this that it doesn't break new ground.

Far Cry 4 is Far Cry 3 dialled up to eleven, with more animals, activities, missions and abilities. And while throwing more stuff at the player isn’t the perfect recipe for success, I was happy to play a richer, larger version of one of my favourite games in recent years.

An absurdly entertaining open world playground that’s at its best when it breaks away from script. Shame about those tailing missions.

For all its visual appeal, however, Far Cry 4 remains a shallow experience. It has loads of things in it, but having a lot of things is not the same thing as having depth. With a vapid story, activities that rely more on regurgitation than anything else, and a campaign that is exciting only for as long as you can ignore how insincere it all is, this is a game that affects a meaningful experience, rather than manage to be one.

Sure, it's a calculated affair. But the well known formula still makes Far Cry 4 a very welcoming shooter-sandbox with a refreshing knack for chaos.

It also runs great on PC, where the higher potential resolution and better image quality really stands out. That's the version to play, if you have a PC that's capable of running it properly.

It's when you circumvent Far Cry 4's major thematic flaws, inconsistent missions, and incessant nagging that you find the game you came looking for, breathing easy and enjoying the mountains that rise in the distance and the valleys that stretch beneath you.

Graphically appealing, Far Cry 4 reincarnates the gameplay of its marine old-gen form into the mystical and evocative Himalayan setting. The transmigration of Far Cry's soul into a new (re)generation body is successfully complete: the Nirvana of open world FPS is a step nearer.

Far Cry 4 truly shines in the almost bacchanalian sense of freedom it bestows on the player as they traverse through its environment.
