For me, Devil May Cry 5 is more a combat game separated in different levels than an action/adventure title. The game can be completed in a short amount of time (10-12 hours for a skilled player) but has great replayability.To be honest, I started this game with high expectations (my wife was really looking forward to see me play this game). Both of us were a bit disappointed as we were expecting a GOTY (9 or 10/10). Why exactly ? Here are a few weaknesses we noticed:1. The level design is weak and lacks creativity. The levels feely samy (especially past mid-game)2. There are no puzzles anymore...3. My wife (who is a backseat gamer) found that the game on Devil Hunter difficulty lacked challenge (the satisfaction is not the same as DMC 3 when we beat a boss). Maybe, it's because the yellow orbs are so abundant. For me, it was ok but my wife prefered DMC 3 for the challenge.4. The story was a bit weak...However, this game is still really great because of all the options it offers in term of combat. You also have 3 playable characters who have unique styles. To fully enjoy this game, keep in mind you're playing a combat game which is a playground where you can try so many combos and styles. Don't expect an adventure / action with rich levels and exploration.I consider now trying a few levels on the higher difficulty levels to see how it goes :)

This review contains spoilers. Amazing game. Gorgeous graphics, exciting OST, fluid combat mechanics and kind of unlimited(?) combo potentials. Have always been a fan of the DMC series. Although I am not very skillful, I always enjoy spending time hack and slash my way to infinite devil trigger mode, and for all achievements in later games in the series. The reason I marked it down by 1 is because I am a little bit unsatisfied with the weapons/combat, characters and story. Despite all the complains in the below, I am still gonna go for DMC6 in the future lolololol.

DMC 5 takes the best from previous titles, like over the top action and nuanced battle system, adds a great new character and makes the best use of modern technologies.

While it is annoying that Bloody Palace mode is not available day one, it is coming as a free update on April 1st. Capcom has proved this gen that they are truly the best at 3D action games. They took some bold risks with the style and realistic flavour, and it pays off by taking on this new look that has never been seen before in any videogame. Even spectators are going to be extremely entertained by the spectacle that it Devil May Cry 5. Everything feels so fresh, and the advancements in the controls and fluidity in animation makes playing this refined masterpiece so hard to put down.

The story is kinda campy, over the top and totally capcom,but it's still a great time. Voice acting is pretty good, and the performance is great, running on 120+ fps on older hardware. However, the camera needs more work. Devil may cry 4 had multiple camera modes and i'd like to see a return of those. No 21:9 or arbitrary resolution support. Some more graphical options would be really appreciated too. The coop sections are really cool but only 2 missions really use that feature and it's impossible to train coop combos reliably. More levels would be my priority after Bloody Palace and more playable characters.There's no cancerous walking segment or tons of cutscenes to screw your pace over BUT i would like some missions to have faster checkpoints and reload times. Mission 19 and 20 shouldn't have a checkpoint option. And it shouldn't have the cutscene replay if you select restart mission. Other stuff also appreciated would be native PS4 Controller support on PC, like Yakuza has so far. I would also like the void to be a bit more refined. i would recommend the team to look at trainers available for previous games to see what players really want to use.One huge bug that has cropped up is that force quits or game crashes corrupts and deletes your saves, including all your golden orbs from logins and stylish appraisals. This is a huge bug that made me replay the campaign 2 more times. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon.Bloody Palace will be out April 1st so let's see if that's any good.

Dropping the puzzles in favor of a more streamlined, combat focused experience is another good change, and really helps the game have more of a laser focus. With plenty of content to keep you busy, as well as both free and paid DLC in the works, Devil May Cry 5 is well worth your time, and hard earned dollars.

Devil May Cry 5 is yet another exquisite game from Capcom. True to its roots, but also with attractive innovations, surprisingly gorgeous and fun, it is probably the ideal sequel to a classic action series.

There's Nero who i actually liked this time around with his new cybernetic arm, engine blade and wicked magnum Rose which all combine to make a fresh style of play, then there's the iconic demon hunter Dante who is extremely badass here but he needs no introduction and last but not least V, this cool new emo lookin guy who wears fricken sandals, he had me fooled until i played him; he has this highly unique summoning/exorcism combat style that's reminiscent of Capcom's Chaos Legion. All 3 are just awesome and likable.So the overall combat is fluid, wild and fun, the character movement is smooth and the abilities and combos are very easy to understand. I did have some problems with annoying camera angles but that doiesnt since the set pieces are just amazing. The story was above average and felt quite short but i guess that replay value is there with multiple difficulties and unlockables. Since it is not open world be wary if you're looking for a grand adventure, DMC is and has always been about kicking demons a**** with style in a linear designed level(s) with a epic boss battle at the end. There was also a Multiplayer/co-op type of system that is weirdly integrated through out the story, i wasn't too sure how it worked but i think there was a missed opportunity on not making this a possible co op game.Welcome (back) to the world of Devil May Cry:The story is fine for avid fans of the series but newcomers might not fully resonate with the familiar faces and its rough pacing of the story. They really tried to tie it up the games backstory with a History Lesson type option but as always DMC is just as ambiguous as a Dark Souls game but that's another reason why i love DMC, it doesn't take itself too seriously.Devil May Cry at its visual finest and it's still rockin' kick-ass music:This is by far the best looking DMC to date, explosive effects, finely designed character models, cool weapon designs, V's demon summoning's, Dante's devil trigger, Nero's explosive devil breakers and more; all make this game a joy to look at while you're cutting demons down. For everything Devil May Cry 5 does right, it does something wrong. The good graphics, the fantastic music and the new gameplay ideas are watered down by the weak, uninteresting story and its repetitive experience that will leave the fans with a mediocre experience.

Devil May Cry 5 is exactly what we’ve come to expect of the series. In fact, if anything it feels like the developers were that terrified of repeating the response to Ninja Theory’s DMC, that they’ve gone overboard on being traditional. But then, with such a slick, enjoyable combat system, and all the witty banter that you could ever want in a game, DMC 5 is a fine way to bring the series roaring back after a decade in limbo.

Aside from my story gripes with Lady and Trish and my couple of issues with the Devil Breaker, Devil May Cry 5 practically exceeded my expectations. As a fan of the series all the way back to day one, and especially a fan of Devil May Cry 4 and my man dude Nero, Devil May Cry 5 is not only an excellent character action game. It’s also a mostly satisfying end to the story. I’m sure there’s more Devil May Cry to be had from here, but the story that started all the way back 2001 finally feels like a complete work, and that’s a rare treat.

The silly arguments on whether the original DMC or DmC is better can stop now, because DMC5 is here and it’s bloody brilliant. This is a proper return to form for the series, something that fans of both can get behind.
