Counter Strike Source CD Key è un remake del classico e fa uso del Source Game Engine. Inizialmente Counter Strike è stato rilasciato sotto forma di beta al programma Valve Cyber Café. Come la versione originale, anche questa ha una squadra di controterroristi che deve lavorare contro una squadra di terroristi in diversi round. Ogni round è vinto avendo un obiettivo completato, come salvare gli ostaggi o far esplodere la bomba o avere tutti i membri della squadra nemica da eliminare.
Lo sviluppatore del gioco è Turtle Rock Studios e Valve Corporation e il distributore è Electronic Arts. Il gioco è stato sviluppato per Linux, OS X e MS Windows ed è stato rilasciato il 1° novembre 2004. È un gioco multiplayer sparatutto in prima persona. L'obiettivo finale del giocatore è quello di far vincere i diversi round del gioco, molto più di quello della squadra avversaria. Il gioco non fa respawn quando i giocatori vengono uccisi, fino al prossimo turno, a differenza di quello degli altri giochi. Sparare quando ci si muove diminuisce drasticamente la precisione, mentre scattare continuamente per sparare produce numerosi rinculi. Questo gioco ha goduto di recensioni positive con Metacritic che gli fornisce 88, che può essere definito un punteggio rispettabile.
